Answering My Christian Friend–Part 2

My Friend

I don’t want you to go to Hell for not believing in God.

My Response

All hail Zeus, Ra, and Thor!

I don’t care whether Jesus said this in the Bible:

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. – John 14:6 (KJV)

Any fool can say that.

You need external collaborating evidence (historical documents, artefacts, confirmed miraculous incidents clearly done by your God etc.) to show that your God is any truer than the ancient Egyptian, Roman, or Greek gods. Else I’m considering them the same.

I’m a Christian, but I don’t believe in a young earth. Please just be careful that when you are answering this friend’s questions you don’t tarnish the rest of Christianity at the same time. Just because some salespeople are sharks doesn’t mean all are. Just because some lawyers are sharks, doesn’t mean that all are. Just because some estate agents are sleaze-balls doesn’t mean all are. Just because some Christians are fundamentalists doesn’t mean that all of us are. Some of us have no issue with science and faith working hand in hand, without science being watered down, and without faith being compromised.

So please, just be careful what you say, and how you say it.

    • nimming, I wasn’t even talking about Young Earth Creationism in the post. My point is simply this:

If you can’t show evidence for your views, then I have no reason to believe it.

      Cheers.

You seem to know science and other topics well. I hope you can take this comment and I am not charging in uninvited.

Jesus did say that verse as well as hundreds of other radical and non seeker sensitive claims that shocked the culture. I find it hard to follow Jesus after he says give up your life, pick ME over your family, and carry a wooden torture device daily. That verse John 14:6 seems to be an invitation. It seems harder to believe in Jesus and follow him, but all I can find is love from Him in the Bible. What does following Jesus take away from ones life? I think all the morals only better society and yourself. How do you view this? How do you look at all the prophecies that were made hundreds of years before his birth?

    Thanks!

    • If you can find only love from Jesus, then so be it. I respect your choice. For me, I can’t really see how that is true, and I don’t see much, if any evidence showing that the Bible is factual, so I don’t believe in it. Secondly, if one were to follow morals written in the Bible, then it means that killing any child who speaks up against his/her parents is totally justified. Lastly, those prophecies appeared in the Bible, and the Bible can be easy modified by its authors to create consistency, so it doesn’t really mean anything.
